Thursday 12th - Sunday 15th April 2017
Back for it's 6th year, Davefest is a celebration of the life of David
K. 'Barbie Jesus' Lord, whose friendship and wisdom brought many of us
together. We aim to continue Dave's legacy of finding excellent people and
putting them in the same place to create something magical. It is a time for getting together to celebrate the lives of other people we've lost. Last year, we lost Warren from Cafe Rene, who was well known and loved by many members of the Davefest community. The festival is
open to everyone - if you've not been before, come along and find out. If you're an old hand, bring some brilliant friends this year!
Free camping straight through from Thursday 12th - Sunday 15th April, with 3 days (!!!) of live music, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We run on donations, and a £10 donation gets you a most excellent Davefest VI wristband.
If you wish to camp from Wednesday, it will be £9 per person, and the same for Monday night.
Held at the Lower Lode Inn near Tewkesbury, which will sell you a bodacious collection of drinks and hot food throughout the weekend.
There will be a thorough lineup of music over 3 days, amongst other wonderful activities such as: flute making, poetry, yoga, campsite sports day, pipe making, and comedy. There will also be a pineapple balancing competition (back by popular demand)! Finally, watch out for the absolute awesomeness of Syren Alternative Belly Dancers, on the Friday, and the official Davefest VI opening ceremony on Thursday night at the bonfire, and the closing ceremony on Sunday too (same place) !! Davefest is back for its sixth year! Three days of live music, camping, and nonsense, all completely free.
There's one major change this year:
THEMED CAMPS! Get some friends, come up with a theme, and you can reserve a camping location before you arrive. You can dress up, decorate your camp, put on shows or workshops or set riddles or make a universe in a tent. You can visit other camps and set up collaborations. Each camp will get a sign to announce any events. Check the news page and facebook page for more announcements & information about Themed Camps!
Wednesday will be arrival and setting up, followed by music and beer around the campfire (we are having one large communal fire to save the grass, get everyone talking, and so it can be big!).
Then over the 3 days of music (!!!), the pub will be open, serving a variety of ales and hot food. You are also free to bring your own food and drink for the campsite in the usual festival style, but please support the pub by purchasing their delicious ales and food as well.
As previously mentioned will also have some campsite entertainment organised, but if you have a particular talent you'd like to share get in touch and we'll add you to the list!
Sunday will be a packing-up day, with the committee and Jim Morrisson's weird naked Indian picking up litter.
The pub will be putting on Full English Breakfasts each day for £5.95. They will also provide a burger van during the afternoons and evenings, if there is enough demand for it. On Sunday there will be a carvery as well - please make sure to book your carvery at the bar, the day before - so that you are guaranteed to get one!!
Put the dates in your diaries and tell all your friends! The festival is free, but we're asking for donations to cover costs, with a suggested donation of £10. Any additional money will be set aside for covering next year's costs, then money on top of that will go to a charity of our collective choosing.
There are buses from Gloucester and Cheltenham which will get you around a 20 minute walk from the site. The train station Ashchurch for Tewkesbury is a scenic 2-mile walk, and there is a lot of space for parking cars and bikes at the pub. Walking from Tewkesbury the easiest way to the pub is to arrive on the opposite side of the river, then ring the bell and have the ferryman and his dog come over and collect you.
By making this a brilliant event we'll honour Dave and continue his legacy of bringing people together, then we'll do it again and again for years to come!
Rooms to Book If you want accommodation in style (as opposed to a tent in an idyllic field), the Lower Lode Inn has several rooms/beds available for booking: http://www.lowerlodeinn.co.uk/sleep/They’re keen on booking these out, so if you’re interested get in touch with them, and tell them you’re coming to Davefest!!
